Writing Workshop (WW) offers
scholars the opportunity to review a piece of writing that is in
development, which would benefit from a nuanced examination. This
strand’s structure provides participants four asynchronous
prompts, each followed by a synchronous meeting with your
assigned writing group members to offer time to workshop your
selected pieces. Topics will include writing as a storytelling
process; tools for analyzing data and making it accessible to
readers; increasing readership; and the process of proposing an
edited volume or special issue. Strand 2 is recommended for
scholars who have a significant publication record and are
looking of ways to fine-tune their writing.
The purpose of this course is to help scholars with available
research data to progress toward a finished article.
This might mean the course participant is in possession of
a finished piece of data-informed writing: a chapter in a thesis
or dissertation, a report from work or a final paper from
research methodology course. But it also might mean the
participant has data that has been gathered, codified and
analyzed but which is not yet written in academic essay
form. Whether it is a complete stand-alone piece or a set
of analyzed data, this course will help the researcher go from
where they are now to a more refined place in writing for
publication.
